Who I am ?

Who am I?

My name is Dipak, and I'm a testament to the human spirit's capacity for resilience and transformation. Born in Mauritius, my life took a dramatic turn in 1999 when I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Despite facing rejection and adversity, I discovered a new sense of purpose and became an international speaker in mental health, inspiring others with my story.

Today, I call Australia home, where I'm actively involved in Toastmasters and passionate about sharing my message of hope and empowerment. My upcoming book, Be Inspired by Strangers, is a platform dedicated to showcasing remarkable journeys of mental health, highlighting the potential for transformation and the importance of community support.

These stories serve as powerful reminders that positive change is always within reach, offering motivation, understanding, and encouragement to teenagers, young adults, and parents navigating their own challenges.

Welcome to Be Inspired by Strangers, where stories of mental health journeys unfold, inspiring a sense of optimism, empowerment, and connection.

My Journey to Empowerment

In 1999, I was a high school student in Mauritius. After expressing myself through dance in class, I was called to the Deputy Headmaster's office. This led to my first doctor's visit, where I received a diagnosis of Bipolar and began taking medication. However, this diagnosis would later prove to be incorrect.

I faced rejection from my school and community, leading to feelings of humiliation and low self-esteem. The medication I was prescribed had severe physical and emotional side effects. In 2002, I moved to Perth, but the first doctor I saw continued the same treatment plan, exacerbating my struggles.

My life had become a cycle of despair, but in 2014, I sought a second opinion from a new doctor in Perth. After conducting thorough medical tests, this doctor revealed that my initial diagnosis was incorrect. This revelation was a turning point in my life.

In 2019, I shared my story with a wider audience for the first time at a Speakers Institute bootcamp. This experience empowered me to continue sharing my message. In 2021, I spoke at an event in Sydney, inspiring others with my story of resilience.

Today, I am a confident and empowered individual. I have taken control of my diet and well-being, and I am embracing life's beauty.
